Inter Club Print Challenge

On Sat 11 March our President, along with Kathryn, Derek went to
Didsbury (home of S. Manchester) to attend the L&CPU "Three
competitions" day. In the morning there was the inter-club slide comp to decide which
two clubs (in addition to Wigan 10) would represent L&CPU in the PAGB national
championships at Warwick in July; we came second to S. Manchester.
In the afternoon the equivalent comp for prints was held and we won.
It was the first time that trophy had been awarded (they must have used a different
selection procedure for prints in the past).

Another Member gets published!

Not to be out done by his mate Martin, Roger Moss has just had some work published!

Roger recently entered several landscape images in a 2005 calendar competition featured in Lancashire Life on behalf of Thwaites Brewery. His fine image 'Three Steps To Heaven' was selected for the front cover along with four other months.

As part of the prize, Thwaites treated all the selected photographers and partners to a slap up lunch at the Millstone Hotel, Mellor. The meal had a Lancashire theme with black pudding and Bowland Fell beef all washed down with several pints of Thwaites finest.
Later, Roger was presented with a framed copy of the calendar by the MD followed by a guided tour of the brewery. And yes, he did get some to take away!

A 'Reet Grand Day Out' .

Member gets published

SPS Member Martin Woods, was approached last year by a picture researcher working for AVA publishing about some book projects she was working on. She had seen some of his pictures on a website. AVA publish a lot of art and photography books. The researcher asked him to submit some images for consideration for a book they were working on called "An Advanced Guide to Digital Photography" by Vincent Oliver. Martin submitted three shots to the author and after initially accepting two it was then trimmed to one in the final editing stage. Martin was required to send details of all digital processing carried out on the image and create some screen grabs of the work in progress which may also be used in the book. The book is now in the final stages of publication and will be available in January and his landscape image "Lancashire Marshes at Dawn" will be featured. As far as he knows it isn't being used as an example of how not to take digital pictures, but won't know exactly what the book says until he get his free copy in January.

Details of the book can be found on AVA's website under the Photography book list. The web address is http://www.avabooks.co.uk

Well done Martin
