AWARDS

Prizes will be awarded for: First, Second and Third in all Classes.
PAGB Ribbons and SPS Certificates will be awarded at the Selectors’ discretion.
Each Selector will have a personal choice for the award of a PAGB Gold Medal.
The President of the SPS will award a President’s Medal in Mono & Open Prints, Open Slides and Digital, and Nature.
An SPS label will be issued for each accepted image.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. ENTRIES.

  • You may enter up to FOUR images in each class.
  • No image may be entered in more than one class whether as a print, slide or digital.
  • Images must not have been accepted by the Society for a previous open exhibition.
  • For the purpose of these rules the Society reserves the right to consider the image to be the same as one already used if, regardless of title or medium, it is so similar to the other as to be almost identical.
  •  The original image/images must be made by the entrant, who must own the copyright of all images used in the work.
  •  Except in the Nature Classes any process may be used to produce the final image, but the finished work must not incorporate images or elements produced by anyone else.
  • Wildlife subjects must be free and unconstrained within the environment in which they were photographed and any digital work must not alter the truth of the photographic statement.
  • The utmost care will be taken of all work, but the Society cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage.

2. PRINTS.

  • Prints must be mounted on card. Maximum mount size is 51cm x 41cm and not less than 38cm on the longer side.
  •  The Name and Address of entrant, Class, Number and Title (as on the entry form) must be marked clearly on the back of each mount.
  • Any Print/mount received with Velcro or similar material thereon will not be accepted. If the mounting damages another print, it will be rejected.
  •  In the Monochrome Class, a black & white image modified by the addition of a single tone over the entire image is eligible. One modified by toning part of the image or adding a colour to part of the image should be entered in the colour section.

3. SLIDES.

  •  Slides must be 5.1cm x 5.1cm, mounted, correctly spotted and bear the Class, Number and Title, as on the entry form.

4. DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGES (DPI)

 
  • Class F is OPEN, so images may be colour or monochrome, from film or digital originals and of any subject excluding Nature.
  •  Class G is Nature.

IMAGE SIZE

  •  Images will be projected in landscape format, 1400 pixels wide x 1050 pixels high, including any borders. Free space around the image may be filled with black. The border may be filled with any colour, design or texture.
  •  Entries should be in sRGB colour space and saved as jpg
  • Any entries not complying with the above may be automatically changed by our viewing software to comply with these image specifications. If the image cannot be updated then it will be rejected from the competition.

PREPARING YOUR ENTRY

  •  Entries may be submitted online via the exhibition website or on CD. To enter via the website please follow the instructions posted there.

Entries on CD

  •  The filenames used should be of the form "title.jpg" where "title" is the image name as entered on the entry form.
  •  Create separate folders on the CD called "Open" and "Nature" and put the corresponding images into them.
  •  Burn the CD as a "Data CD" and close it such that it may be read on any computer. Avoid options such as "write session" or "write multisession" which may render the CD unreadable on computers other than the one on which it was created.
  •  See above ("IMAGE SIZE") for image specifications.

Identification

  • Mark your CD with your name and Postcode. Use indelible marker or direct printing, NOT an adhesive label.

HELP

 5. RETURN OF ENTRIES.

  •  CDs will not be returned but will be destroyed not later than 9th April.nd Slides will be returned as soon as possible after the exhibition, in original wrappings whenever possible.

RESULTS CARDS and CATALOGUES.

  •  Results will be notified by e-mail, unless otherwise requested, when a card will be mailed.
  •  Catalogues will be posted before the Exhibition opens.

 REPRODUCTION.

• Whilst copyright rests with the authors, the Society reserves the right to use any entry, without fee, for publication and/or display in any media related to the exhibition. This will include a CD/DVD of the accepted DPI entries.

DATA PRIVACY

The Southport Photographic Society will hold the personal information provided by to manage your entries and provide information to you about future events. The society does not pass this information to any other third parties.  Please contact the Exhibition Co-Ordinator if you do not want this information retaining after the end of the competition.

SUBMISSION AND RETURN OF ENTRIES

1. ENTRIES & FORMS.

  • Prints, Slides & CD’s • Slides & CD may be enclosed with your form.
  •  Send Form & Payment in an envelope NOT in your print box. Print packages are not opened at the delivery address.
  •  Multiple entrants – list entrants on print box and clip forms together in sequence in envelope.

2. ENTRY FEES:

  •  £7 for ONE class, plus £3 for each ADDITIONAL Class. • DVD’s £5.50 each, include return postage for prints. • Cheques to be made payable to “SPS EXHIBITION”.

3. POSTAGE.

  •  Please fill in the postage labels provided on the website. PRINT ENTRIES will not be returned by post unless sufficient postage is provided.
  • There is no postage charge for Results Cards, Catalogues, return postage for SLIDES or the transfer of prints from and to the Lytham or Smethwick P.S. addresses.

ALTERNATIVE COLLECTION AND RETURN ARRANGEMENTS

To take advantage of these alternative arrangements send your entry forms and fees direct to Southport to arrive no later than 14th January 2010 and have your entry at the collection point by that date.
 We will COLLECT entries from Smethwick, including entries forwarded from Bromsgrove.
