The Mary Hirst
Landscape
Competition

1st. 'Dunstangburg'
by Alex Anderson
"Taken during a trip to the Farne Islands. Set off from home just after midnight and got to dunstanburgh before sunrise, walking over the boulders was tricky in the pre dawn light to find the composition I wanted for the rising sun. The image was taken with a Nikon D3 with 24-70 AFS Nikkor and a 10 stop neutral density filter to give the dreamy effect to the sea. This was a great place to photograph and one I will certainly go back to." Alex

'The Lighthouse'
by Kath Thomas

"This is the New Brighton lighthouse, just behind the fort and overlooking the estuary of the River Mersey. Taken with Canon 400D and EFS 55-250 lens. It was a simple JPEG image taken in good light. The wind was sandblasting our ankles, which accounts for the empty beach and wind patterns in the sand, but the air was sunlit and clear giving the lighthouse itself an attractive pristine look. I was looking for a shot that defined New Brighton and felt this encapsulated that view." Kath
